Nottingham Fly Fishers’ Club is a well established organisation with records showing subscriptions since 1913. As the name suggests, it is solely for those who like to fish with fly.
We fish at Gibsmere Lake, which is located between Bleasby and the River Trent, in the Newark area. This picturesque venue, is approximately 14 acres in size. Our season normally runs from the 1st of March until the end of November, weather permitting. We currently stock the lake six times within the season with Rainbow, Blue and Brown Trout. The fishing is managed by a committee of 5 members, with 2 others co-opted to look after website management and safety & welfare issues. We have annual trophies for the rainbow and brown trout.
The water is very clear for most of the time and responds well to nymph and dry fly fishing, although obviously lures will also take some fish. We restrict membership numbers so that the water is not overcrowded and will appeal to those looking to fish in beautiful tranquil surroundings, sometimes accompanied by like minded anglers. We have a booking-in system at the shed (or as some like to call it the lodge), which means you can always see who else is fishing and enables you to introduce yourself and ask or advise which flies are working on the day.
If you would like to consider joining us please contact our Membership Secretary via the contact page. He will be pleased to give extra detail, current subscription cost and length of waiting list if applicable.
We look forward to hearing from you.
